Dr Caroline Dore Geraghty is a medical doctor who lives with allergic conditions and understands first hand the impact that allergy can have on your life. That is why Dr Caroline furthered her medical education to achieve a masters degree in Allergy from the Imperial College of London and a Diploma in dermatology from University of Cardiff. Dr Caroline combines ethical practice with scientific innovation to provide patient centred allergy care.

A food allergy involves a hypersensitivity reaction where antibodies to the offending food are produced. Symptoms can vary from life threatening anaphylaxis to less severe reactions and usually occur within 1 hour of exposure to the food.
A food intolerance does not involve the immune system and symptoms tend to occur later usually after hours or even after a day of exposure to the offending food. Symptoms are generally less severe, but they do also impact quality of life. -
No we do not provide food intolerance testing, as there are currently no reliable tests available to test for food intolerance apart from lactose intolerance.

The consultation typically lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

Dr. Caroline will take a detailed allergy history, perform an examination, and determine the most appropriate allergens for skin prick testing based on your history and symptoms.

A skin prick test is performed on your forearm. Please avoid applying creams to your arm on the day of your test. The process includes:
Writing on your arm to label allergens.
Applying a positive and negative control along with specific allergens.
Introducing allergens under the skin using a tiny lancet (feels like a small pinch).
Observing your skin for 10-15 minutes to check for reactions, specifically the wheal and flare reaction, which is then measured.
A reaction at the positive control site is expected.
Is there a chance of a systemic reaction from a skin prick test?
There is a very small chance of a systemic reaction. -
No, oral antihistamines must be stopped 7 days before your appointment. If taken accidentally, the appointment will need to be rescheduled.

Avoid using topical steroid creams for 24 hours prior to your appointment.

It is best to avoid skin prick testing during pregnancy.

No, a referral is not required. However, we do accept referrals if your GP provides one.
